Eurydice

All the male poets write of orpheus
as if they look back & expect
to find me walking patiently
behind them. they claim i fell into hell.
damn them, i say.
i stand in my own pain
& sing my own song.

I like the poem. There is so much written, painted and sculpted with the lament of orpheus as subject, but so little on how it all must have felt for Eurydice.
I recommend the Orpheus poems of Margaret Atwood.
